Supporting theatre to provoke debate around HIV & AIDS
Communities are more ready to discuss the issues surrounding HIV & AIDS after they have watched a Tawkal drama production that tells a story of a family that has been affected by the disease. It encourages community members to take immediate action, such as reporting cases of rape and attending a VCT clinic. Although we don't provide direct medical services theTawkal theatre team and community facilitators bridge-build between the community and local clinics to help people to access the services that are available and put pressure on their local government to provide services that are lacking.HIV/AIDS awareness raising theatre performances have been held in 8 communities. So far 240 people have participated in HIV/AIDS/ FGM awareness sessions. 500 awareness raising leaflets distributed to pastoralists.
