Pastoralism is environmentally friendly
Pastoralism provides direct and indirect benefits to the environment in dryland areas according to a report by WISP in Oct 2008.
The study, covering pastoralism in Ethiopia, Iran, Kyrgzstan, Mali, Peru and Spain, discusses how pastoralism produces tangible benefits such as meat, wool and milk, but also, indirect value by providing wider environmental services such as safe guarding bio diversity or promoting tourism in rural areas. The study has even demonstrated a link between pastoralism and preventing soil erosion.
