United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification’s (UNCCD) seventh session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 7) was held in Istanbul, Turkey between the 3rd-14th November 2008

The CST considered the two-year work programme and the four-year work plan for the CST, and looked at ways to measure progress for strategic objectives 1, 2 and 3 of The Strategy as well as how to assess the overall implementation of the 10-Year Strategic Plan. The CRIC focussed on three methodological blocks; presentations and discussions on multi-year programmes of work prepared for the secretariat, the GM, Joint Work Programme between both organisations, the CRIC and the CST. Reporting issues were tabled to CRIC 7 participants, in order to elicit additional input for the ongoing work of the secretariat in drafting new guidelines.

The Pastoralist Assistance aims to provide a positive picture of pastoralists and pastoralism to both the public and to all those working with pastoralists. The pastoralists that we work with are proud and knowledgeable people and in many areas of the drylands of the horn pastoralists are actively pursuing a productive livelihood. They do not want to be constantly viewed as victims and believe that the media generally portrays them as poor, vulnerable and dependant on food aid. We therefore concentrate our news and events on positive work and events and stories concerning pastoralists.
