Our Trustees
- Patta Scott-Villiers is one of the founders of EPAG and became a Trustee in 1996 after EPAG Kenya became an independent African NGO. She has worked for the Institute of Development Studies for 10 years specialising in the fields of 'Participation' and 'Pastoralist Development'. She currently works as a consultant for the Pastoralist Consultants International working on the DFID funded Pastoralist Communication Initiative PCI based in Kenya and Ethiopia.
- Catharine Howard has travelled in both East and West Africa and is a keen advocate of the pastoralist way of life. She is a trained horticulturalist and garden designer with a particular interest in sustainable gardening practices and ecology.
- Celia Scott has been a Trustee for EPAG since it inception in 1993. She has as a background as a Foreign Service wife, having served abroad in 7 countries. Subsequently she was the founding Administrator of the Royal Fine Art Commission Arts and Education Trust where she worked for 7 years assisting with the fund raising and the organisation of its projects. She has a particular interest in East Africa and the field of pastoralism. Celia drafted the original EPAG Trust Deed and obtained its UK charitable status from the Charity Commission in 1993. She chairs all EPAG Trustee meetings and is currently the Secretary of the Board.
- Adrian Walker is a History Graduate from The University of Manchester. He specialised in African History and later did Research at The School of African and Oriental Studies SAOS. Adrian's family has a long history associated with East Africa since the 1930's (Kenya and Uganda). He has worked for 25 years in the LLoyd's Insurance market as an underwriter.
- Nuur Hassan has an extensive experience in working with development and relief agencies in Somalia and Ethiopia. He worked as an IT support analyst for 5 years at various companies including media and commercial sectors. He earned BSc in computer studies from London south bank University and MSc in systems analysis and design at City University London.

Trustee mandate
The EPAG UK Board of Trustees mandate is to:
- Ensure that EPAG UK and its partners work towards the purpose of the organization and work in accordance with the EPAG UK core values.
- Provide guidance and management to the EPAG UK Co-ordinator and any other persons that may be recruited or commissioned to undertake work for EPAG UK.
- Oversee the adequate accountability of EPAG UK, and of all funds that pass through the EPAG UK bank account to other implementing partners, by adhering to the tasks listed in the EPAG UK Accountability Procedures.
- Approve fundraising activities by any employees or trustees.
- Provide guidance and practical support to EPAG UK staff and its partners with regard to charity law and best practice in running a charity.
- Support the training, mentoring and awareness raising of EPAG UK staff and its partners on issues relating to the areas of pastoralist livelihood systems, pastoral governance, communication, drought and conflict management, social protection and poverty.
Becoming a Trustee
EPAG UK is not currently recruiting new Trustees their UK-based Board. However we do have regular rounds of recruitment and it is always worth checking our site if you are interesting in becoming a Trustee for a charity that works in the Horn of Africa.
The EPAG UK Trustee position is legally for at least two years. This is voluntary commitment that requires passionate advocates of poor people’s voice within the development arena. Candidates will ideally bring fresh enthusiasm and new ideas from their own profession or community for developing the work of EPAG UK. The key things we look for in potential candidates are:
- Passion, commitment and organisation
- Accounting, legal, management, public awareness and/or fundraising capabilities
- Links to funding sources (public or private), academia and government/international bodies
- Understanding of politics, economics and society in Africa
- Understanding of poverty, marginalisation and community organisation
